Way to go guys!!! It was a long hot day for you guys!!! (9:30 Am to almost 10 PM at one point it was 96.1 Degrees in the shade!) Almost all the CCDV Racers made it to the second round. Just unbelievable day for CCDV!!!

Eight of the ten CCDV Racers made it into the second round today. Four made it into the third and Edgar Perez made it to the Quarterfinals. Mike Campbell cut a .506 in the first round to win the Best R/T trophy. He also went 3 rounds. Way to go Mike! Carl Neff got into the second round but broke out running a 13.20 his best ever. I broke out in the second also by .02. Mike Campbell and Joe Signore both had traction problems in their rounds to go out. John Burbich went out in the second round also redlighting at .499. That was a close one John. Al Betz was running good but went out in the third round also. Ellis made it to the fourth round in Real Street( I think). Thanks to all who made the trip, and a special thanks to Ian and Jackie(pit truck driver and GF) for putting in such a long day. We also racked up alot more points toward the Club Challenge trophy! Way to go guys.;tu

We had a good day collecting these things!
Great performance today team. That track was hard to tame event with my ET streets.
Can't beleive my 4th round win. My oppenent cut a .503 light which is good enough to win I say 99% of the time. Could not run his number so I got him at the stripe by .04 seconds.
Wow.
Mike that was awesome improvement you showed today.
Yes sir Pres we did great as a team. I am real proud of those that are out there learning the ropes. Joe with the hard top getting and MC after struggling with the car winning all over the place.
And some guy named Perez creeping into third place in the standings.
It won't last. I will definitely miss the August 30th race (make up)

I'll have to do something about traction, but right now I'm going to enjoy my 3rd round appearance. I really caught some good breaks today. I think my new top really confused my opponents. But it sure felt good to be able to open it up again. Congrats to ALL our racers, we have one fine team!
Congrats to all.Sorry I couldn't stay for the Challenge.Got there
at 9:15 AM intending to run both events.1st two runs in the time trials were back to back. Each time as I went to turn around at the
end of the strip, the clutch felt funny, not smooth, sort of jerky. It
seemed OK from that point on.Decided it was too hot and that maybe the slave cylinder hydraulic fluid needed to cool down.Waited 1/2 hour and tried again.Everything felt great till I
went to grab 4th gear.Nada!The shifter wouldn't move.Didn't
feel like I was missing the gate so I decided to call it a day.Since
its my daily driver,I felt it would be prudent to quit.Have an appointment at Bryner this week anyway.
On the way home, everything felt fine.Ran it up through the gears,
no problem.Maybe the car just missed the company of its fellow
CCDV racers?

Edgar, we'll see if team CCDV can help you stay in third while you're away. At least we can try. :D
Richy, hope all is well with the Z. Missed you at the track. BTW when I got to the track they wouldn't sell me a tech card for the Show and Go. It was a little after 12:00, 12:10 to be exact, and elims didn't start till 1:00. Another Challenge racer got there at 12:05 and they wouldn't sell him one either. Had a good time hanging with team CCDV and looking at some of the show cars. Dennis Spaulding was there with his 63'.
WOW,
CONGRATS all you guys, way to Mike C. As for me ACK!!! i did aweful my car ran well ok in the first couple tyme shots then it fell off, the heat beat me up bad sorry for not hanging around till the end i jut felt crapy. again guys great showing for CCDV.
Mike
Great HOT!! day, but a good one for CCDV. Mike C., if I had to get beat I'm glad you were able to continue. Good job.
Wow! What a day for sure!
Big congrats to ALL of us for going in to some later rounds! ;bc
Mike C.... awesome light, keep it up!
Edgar.... way to go, you are a force, the "awesomeness of Edgar Perez" as Nick Goldman announced!
As Tony stated, the track was hard to tame yesterday.
When I left on the 3rd yellow, I cut slow .6xx lights, when I left when the 2nd yellow went out, I went red...
My solution, I started deep staging, and leaving on the 3rd yellow, and went 4 rounds in Real Street class, cutting all .5xx lights.
My 5th round loss was an "on the brakes" brake-out by .001, running a 12.539 on a 12.54 dial-in. Oh well.. haha...
My opponent ran over by .09, running a 17.09, on her 17.0 dial.
Edgar, I'm coming to you for light cutting advice. My dials are good, as I think EVERYONE's are as we know how our cars will run, but the tree is what seems to be the make it or brake it thing at this point...
So big guy, any tips you wish to disclose, or does it just come with lots of practice & experimenting???
well in my 1st elim run my check engine lite came on so i shut down to race another day so i lost had a fresh nitrous bottle in and everything i dailed 1180 and ran 1190 getting out of it. but glad you'll did so well i was really sick my body temp at 830last night was still 103 i was not good at all i tried to nap during the day and Tony woke me up asking if i was ok i said well enoght to run 1 so i did. i should just have gone home.

Mike, hope you're feeling better today. ;bt
Mike..
Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well....
I know working all those long hard hrs takes its toll....
Tell you what, just cut your hrs to 60 hrs a week & you'll feel like a new man!
Seriously, you were on a roll last event, you'll be back on track on the 16th!

Well the best help I can give you is in the form of a TLA (Three Letter Acronym)
R P M
Try not to vary your staging technique or the "spot" at which you leave on the tree. That can mess you up big time. Vary your RPM. If I cut a .620 light and I am holding RPM at 1900, the net time up I go up 100 RPM. Same if I cut a .490, I drop RPM.
This is why you never want to take your A4 preload as high as it can go cause you can adjust and you don't want to be holding at max rpm at the line anyway.
feelin way better today after 10 hours sleep, and the check engine light went out today and has not returned, it cleared after some um well lets just say hard driving this morning.

Thanks guys for all your support! Sorry Mike to hear you weren't feeling good. You may have gotten a touch of heat stroke... I had that once during my football playing days and it's not a nice thing. I guess I really lucked out with that great RT, however, I ran 15 times all day . ;yn All my times ranged from
.506, .507,two .508's, .525, .544, .585, .618,.621,.636, .669, .738, .750 & 2 red lites. I was getting better RT's , but, I never hooked up all day. I just lucked out pulling a good one when it counted. But as Edgar has told us all many many times over..."The race is won at the light!" Wow did we see that hold true.
Tony, many congrats on another perfect .500!!! My congrats to Al Betz, Tony B, Joe Signore, John , Big El (the Pharoah!) , Carl, Wheelz, & Richy too. Also, to Bill Burkholder & doing the wave from the bleachers!! :D Great bunch of guys, tearing up the place. ;bt

Edgar, this normally holds very true for me as well. I try to maintain the way I stage and my launch as much as possible, and then keep raising the RPM 100 until I get close to .500. But yesterday I found that I began losing traction before I was able to lower my RT enough. It got so bad that my RT's went up from the wheel spin from the higher RPM.
So what am I to do next??? Should I try deep staging and lower the RPM until I can get some bite? Or am I at the point that I'll have to break down and buy drag radials. I guess it seems inevitable anyway, huh?
Way to go ,Mike.Great RTs.How about the 60' times?Did the line-lock help?
Mike Campbell
07-28-03, 09:24 AM
Richy, out of all my runs, only 4 of them were my 60' times in the
1.9's. All the rest were 2.000 & above. I ran the gamut up and down varying my RPM from 2200 to 3500. My line lock worked great. My tires were like tar and yet I still was breaking loose. ;tt My last run that I lost was a 2.476 60' time. I sat there burning away, and then almost lost it when I hit 2nd. Then promptly missed the 3rd to 4th shift. That run I came off at 2500...go figure?
Now alot of guys said the left lane was better, however, I got used to the right lane and both times I ran in the left lane I red-lighted. We old guys are creatures of habit.. ;jj

Mike, hope you're feelin better!! AND congrats to all you CCDV racers! I'll rejoin you in Sept. The '76 runs like poop in this hot weather!
However, we had a real nice showing at Hatboro with about 20 Club Vettes! And 3 took home some real nice trophies! I think it was Richie with his red '58, Stan & Lynn with their red '69 & John T. with his red '76! I guess RED was the color to have!?! You know what they say! Half the CCDV Vettes there were red!
Joel
Joe I would much rather see you working on drag radials but a day like yesterday even my ET streets were very unpredictable.
I would still stay away from true deep staging. Maybe an extra bump will help that if you bump too much you may go red since it is hard to measure that bump. I have lost many races because of extra bumps.
What I would like do is dial for a spin and hope I don't hook. Huh? Yup Add a tenth to my expected ET. Try the to cut the light knowing I will likely spin and then manage the top end to try and not break out.

Edgar, sounds like a "plan" to me. And, I think that's exactly what I'll try to do from now on. And if one can pull a good light, the top end can be yours! ;yn;yn After 2 time trials you know mostly how the day will shape up and how the track is.

Yep, did this one time when I was running the Challenge and Real Street. Couldn't hook all day so I figured what the heck. Did well in Real Street that way.
"Spense" aggressively drove the car yesterday.Felt that 4th gear was a little notchy.Still OK to race.He suggested pulling out the gearbox this winter and fixing. Also,he said the clutch feeling jerky at the end of the Etown runs was chatter caused by hot spots on the plate.I felt better after his diagnosis and confident that I am not doing any kind of major damage.

Richy, I think that deserves a big fat "whew!" ;yn Glad to hear that it's not something major.
