View Full Version : Anyone venture to guess
how much my slipping tranny was costing me ET wise?
New tranny is in the car. We have been adjusting shift points down the past couple of outings to get it not to hit the rev limiter.
I have been told that I was losing 2 tenths to the tranny.
Anyone one want to try to guess how much better I can get with the new tranny?
I think we had it shifting about 4500 in 1-2 and 5500 2-3
I find 2 tenths hard to beleive but what do I konw:
I guess I shouldn't ask how much the new tranny is costing
you $ wise?
Hope it pays off on Sat.
I owe the Vette Doctors money for a few mods and I have been asked to bring a "blank check" on Saturday.
I am guessing about $2500 for the trans.

4500 is pretty low, and if the lag in your tranny is anywhere near mine, I'd say .2 is possible. I was hitting my rev limiter last time out too. I dropped my shifts down a couple hundred to play it safe until my car goes in on Monday. I don't think mine was as severe as yours but it'll be interesting to hear what they find (if anything). I'm told it could be as simple as a filter. Good luck with the rebuild and try to put some miles on it before you hit the track.
Joe, unfortunately it is going to have very few miles on it. The driver to track and a few short trips home by the drs.

Short miles on the A4 is a good thing for performance.
I think .2 is not unreasonable if you were slipping to the point of shifting at 4500. Might have been worse. But lets use logic a couple of week before the last ECSCC you were running 11.65-69 at the last Challenge you were running 11.9 but the DA probably said 11.70-75. So .2 sounds right to me.

Hey Al, where'd you get that cool light tree avatar??? Could we use this thing as a "practice tree?" Looks like one....;bt

Hey Mike,
There are lots of cool drag racing avatars out there. Most of them will not fit our 100x100 20K size limit.
Go to google and search for "drag racing avatars"
Al you are right it .2 seems reasonable. Carmem's belief is that even when I ran the 11.6s the tranny was slipping shift points were low to make up for it to 11.6 may not be the right gauge. He has much higher expectations for me. Since I never look at the program I have to beleive he is right.
