Corvettes show-off for a cure

PHOENIXVILLE - A corvette show in the KMart parking lot raised funds to find a cure for a disease that affects hundreds of thousands of people every year.

Adam Wartell organized the show, "Corvettes for a Cure," which benefited the Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Valley Chapter. Wartell also owns C3 Vette Registry (C3VR), an online members-only Website that bills itself as "the best resource on the 'net for C3 Vettes." C3, or Class 3 Corvettes are those built from 1968 until 1982.

"This is the only show I produce," he said. "But I participate in others."

Wartell said chose the Alzheimer's Association in honor of his grandmother, who is living with the disease.

"I wanted to create a car show, and I wanted to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association because of my Grandma," he said. "Last year was the first time we did it, and KMart was nice enough to offer us their lot."

Volunteer Bob Kostaras assisted Wartell with the show. Kostaras, a Gold Member of C3VR, cares for his mother who is also living with Alzheimer's Disease.

The show included door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Raffle tickets were also sold to win a Corvette from the Delaware Valley Corvette Club. Proceeds benefited the DVCC charity, The Sunshine Foundation.

Prizes were also awarded for Corvettes from classes one through six.

First place for Class 1 cars, manufactured from 1953 to 1962, went to Mike Russo.

Class 2 (1963-1967) first place went to Deborah Brickle, second place to Randy Hoffer and third place to Wayne Scott.

Class 3 (1968-1982) first place went to Barry Kirkner, second place to Joseph Burke and third place to Bill Ward.

Class 4 (1984-1996) first place went to Gary Norton, second place to Bill Corona and third place to Mark Cotugno.

Class 5 (1997-2004) first prize went to Bob Anderson, second place to Brian Jackson and third place to Melissa Kirkner.

Class 6 (2005 - present) first place went to Ron Small and second place to Richard Willemin.

Andy Rumford was awarded Best of Show.

In all, 41 Corvette enthusiasts participated in the event.
