Car ran fine on Saturday..... put it in the garage.....Sunday went to start it and the engine won't crank. I thought it was the battery, so I bought a new Optima Red Top and put it in, but the car does the same thing. It's not a column lock problem becasue the column unlocks when you turn the key on. The car is a 98 6spd.. I depress the clutch , turn the ignition on but still the engine won't crank over. I can hear other things happening that you should hear when you turn the ignition on and the lights etc. all work. Checked the battery with a volt meter and the battery is fine and the connections are tight. Having the car towed to Bryner's on Monday. Any ideas what might be wrong???

When the old battery was removed was there any signs that it had a leak???
Did you have the column lock done by GM on a recall?
When did you have the second column lock recall repair done???? ( the first wasn't a recall just a TSB, but there were a total of two).
For now try this........
Clean the key with some alcohol
Put key in turn to start depress clutch try and start while moving the key in a circle.
I posted on Corvette forum in the C-5 Tech section for some help.

No leaks from the old battery. The second recall was done by Bryner Chevy in March or April of this year. I'll try cleaning the key with alcohol to see if that works. Thanks Bill for the quick reply and the posting on the corvette forum.
If its not cranking at all, but all other electrical stuff are working, sounds like a bad ignition switch...
Could also be the switch under the clutch pedal.Unless this closes,
nada..............

Wanted to thank everyone who responded to my quest for help in this thread! Thank you all!
Well, here's what happened. Had the car towed to Bryner's on Monday. Fritz's Towing towed the car for Abington Towing. they did a great job. Took really good care with flatbedding it.
They get the car to Bryners and Steve Spencer gets into it and damn if the car doesn't start right up! He keeps trying it off and on and it starts every time! Anyway, Steve felt it might be the ignition switch, so he replaced it. So far so good, but I just got it back yesterday. Hope this was the problem cause I don't want to get stranded by a "no crankover" gremlin when I'm out of town somewhere! At least the extended warranty covered most of the costs. ;hw
