Are there any diagrams about taking the radio out of the dashboard of the 2001 Z06? I want to hook up my portable mp3 player and there is an "Aux" button below the "CD" button which I am guessing the radio has auxilary rca jacks on the back. Only problem is how do you take the thing out so I can hook it up?
Push, don't pull..
Or is it pull dont' push...?????
Anyway, that stuff is best left to the pros..
Sound City Oddessy on Easton Rd in Glenside..will hook you up!

You don't need no stinkin pro's for this simple job. Cut me a break.
Look over this Hurst Shfter installation guide and you'll see how to get the panel off that lets you access the radio. Once you get that panel off, a couple small bolts on either side of the radio and the unit slides right out.

Once you get this off (and it is easy):

Then you're looking at this:

Just unscrew the radio and pull it out.

Nothing phony about those brake ducts, but of course you apparently don't even know what they are for or how they work or you wouldn't have said that! AND YES, if Glenn says you can do it, you CAN do it unless of course you're clueless.
Let the installation guide tell you whether you can or can not do it for yourself.
It's simple. Just look at the directions. If you can't handle that then El's approach is the way to go, let someone charge you $100 for a 10 minute job. :D

Looks simple enough. Thanks for the directions.
Hey hold the phone, if you're talking about the factory radio, there are no simple AUX ports to connect to. There is only a connector that the disc changer connects to and its not a standard RCA jack input. Its a proprietary GM port. There are cables available that will let you use that port for an auxiliary input, but you lose the functionality of your disc changer (if you have one). Soundgate and PIE electronics make these modules.
I've had my radio out at least 3 times for XM radio installs, its not bad. Its just a PITA because you have to take off the knee bolster, loosen the screws off your center console storage area, and the trim panel that Glenn shows in the picture. The other minor gotcha is removing an re-installing the interior air temperature sensor. (Next to ignition switch). In order to get that trim panel off, it needs to come out and get re-installed when you put humpty dumpty back together again.
One other gotcha is that the radio antenna wire is short. When you pull the radio out, it will probably fall right out. When you re-install you have to be concious of getting that cable back in snug.
Haha.. OK.. Glenn....
Come on over.. My rear brakes need cooling..
bring your saw, & the template!

Those rear ducts would be awesome on YOUR car. The smoke would POUR out of them during your burnouts.
I'll put them on your car anytime bro...........
