I have a new vette that sounds like chevette when I apply the
brakes. What is up with that? These are the larger rotors
with the Z-51 package. Do you guys know any fixs to this
annoying problem? :p
I have read that some Z51 owners have said that their brakes would make noise, I have had two Z51 C6's to drive over the past few weeks and the cars I had made no brake noise. Depending on how your brakes were broken in (bedded) this could be an on going problem, if your pads are glazed you would need to remove them and light sand the top surface down to get rid of the glazing, or switch pads, I did that on my 02' Z06, I switched to Hawk Street Pads, they made less noise, and less dust. :)
Like Carl,I too switched to Hawk pads several years ago for daily driving.Although they required a little more pedal pressure than the stock Z06 pads, the reduction in noise & dust were really
worth it.You can get them from JEGS.
P.S.The stock pads, from the point of view of stopping ability, were the best pads I'd had ever used.
And if you put SS brake lines on at the same time you will need less foot pressure. :)

Todd,
My brakes squeak too. The brakes that are part of the Z51 PKG cause the problem. I tried bedding in the pads by stopping hard several times in row but only provided temporary relief. The only solution appears to be changing the pads.

I tried that as well. I thought it might be letting the car sit for long periods but that's not it. I hate the thought of changing the
pads but the sqeek and the brake dust drives me nuts too.
I had to shake my head When Carl and Richy mentioned
changen the pads, but when they mentioned the dust reduction
I felt better.

Todd, just so you don't think I am picking on you, I would be happy to spend Mark's money too. ;ae ;ae
