I spoke to Rick and he still can't get on. He has disabled his spam filter and it still doesn't work. Also Glenn Hanna is having the same problems registering and getting the Gas Cap on line. Help.............
this isn't a problem that the member will be able to fix. it isn't their spam settings that are blocking us. most major internet providers are blocking the mail sent by our server. We need to upgrade to VB3 and then all issues involving email problems should be solved.
as for Rick and Arleen Ball, their account seems perfectly fine. they are on aol so they won't get our email, but their account is working and they are setup as club members. if they don't know their password, I can create a new one for them.
they should email me at the attached address
onto Glenn
is username is glennhanna@rcn. (note the period on the end)
I'm assuming he's entering his name wrong becasue his account also seems fine. he's on aol, so he won't get our email either. if he'd like his name changed, once again email me at the above address.

What is different in vb3 that will allow the emails to get through?

it's got one of these
I'm going to try and explain it the best that I can but bear with me because I'm not 100% sure. It's taken quite awhile to understand why we are marked as spam, but I finally found out.
In the five years since we set up this VB board there have been all kinds of new interent problems, email virus, spam, adware, etc. I'm sure you are all aware, just how much junk is out there these days. anyway, internet providers are doing what they can to help out. one of the things they do is try to filter out the obvious junk. we have fallen into that category.
the way VB2 send email is outdated, though they don't admit this. They don't have a fix, but recommend that everyone using VB2 upgrade to VB3 for numerous bugfixes etc. Our mail is sent without a reverse domain something or other. it's something that lets servers check to make sure the email they are receiving has actually come from the place where it claims to be coming from. since we don't have it, many servers assume we must be faking our origin and put us in the spam category. now I'm no expect on spam or how to force our way through spam filters, but many people with VB2 are having this same problem as we are where nobody with VB3 is having it. this alone is enough reason for me to justify the upgrade.
I looked at the code and did my best to lift the new email procedure and adapt it to our VB2 code. I've had some success and it's possible that I could get it to work here without the upgrade, but I'd really rather we make the switch. this code is no longer secure. it has weaknesses that these spam people have found and abuse. thats why we sometimes get hit with a bunch of registrations which link to porn sites. upgrading will get rid of that as well.
www.corvetteforum.com uses VB3 so you've probably already seen it. it has many bells & whistles, so even though the upgrade many have a couple hiccups, it will be a fun upgrade. the members will enjoy the new features.
ed, are you still using erols? if not you should update your profile
Glenn still hasn't emailed me at the gmail account. I mailed him just now. he's never logged inot the site so I'm assuming he's either entering his name wrong or forgot his password. I just sent him a new password
