I was thinking hard about selling my 03 Z06 and moving up to the new Z, however I am having 2nd thoughts. I now have 405 HP and the 05 has 400HP. However that is about all the 2 cars have in comon. The Z06 has other features that simply make the car a faster performer than the standard 05 even with 400hp out of the box.The new Z will without a doubt, be the quickest of all the vetes to date, but the question is, how much faster than its predesessor. The torc and HP ratios are not that far appart if you compare the 03 and 04 Z's.
Factoring in the $ issue. The new Z will probably come in around 62-70K any more than that and it won't even be an issue with me. The most I will get for my 03 will be 38-40 max and thats pushing it. The car is 2 years old with 4K on the clock. Bottom line; it will cost me 30K for 90 more HP and a few more ft. lbs. And with that I loose my hide a way lights. I love my lights. My guess is that if the new Z is priced @ 70K it will die on the vine. If it lists @ 60-62 then they won't be able to make them fast enough. So lets get some input from my CCDV brothers.
Nick,
I guess originally I thought about getting a new Z,if possible. However,my experience of the past 18 months with the blower has definitely changed my mind.My next Vette will be a C6 coupe with all the options I want, not what GM dictates on the Z-06,& with the $ I save,I'll get another blower, etc.I'm not interested in road racing,Etown is excitement enough.
Even if the new Z06 is 70k it's still cheap, the Viper guys, Porsche guys and the M5 guys are all looking at the new Z06, because for the money you just can not beat it, and although it only has 90 hp (on paper) more than the 02', 03' and 04', the reports have the new 427 at about 512 - 515 hp, a few bolt ons like long tube headers and a better air intake, and some computer programming and you could be in the 550 hp range. If you ever owned a standard (non Z06) C5 Corvette where there was only a 50 hp difference between a C5 and Z06, it was night and day, it's not so much the hp difference between the C6 Z06 and the standard C6, it's the whole package, the new brakes on the Z06 would be 6-10k if you added them to a standard C6, after owning 2 Z06's I am looking forward to my new C6 Z06. :)

Hey Nick, why don't you drop half the difference in mods to your 4000mi (new) ZO6 and make the new one look sick inside and out. Your car is great just ask the Mustang you scared off goin down the shore for the OC boardwalk corvette show!

You all have excellent points. ;yn However, I hope Chevrolet won't make the same mistake it did with the ZR1 and overprice the car. Or what they did with the last ZO6 and basically put a great engine package in basically a stripper and charge more for it. I agree with Richy's ideas because I also go to E Town on occasion and have noticed that bestrunning cars are not Z's. The new Z will have the same problem every good running Vette has....."traction". I don't think the 100 plus horses are going to be as big a difference as one would think. ;yn However, I still want one. ;bt To rumble down the road in one of those babies is worth the big bucks..:D

If I had the bucks & was looking to buy, I'd find the extra cash & go for the Z-06!! Out of the box it's going to be the fastest Vette ever & styling wise, it's one gorgeous Corvette!
Just my $.02

IF Horsepower is all you are interested in than the new Z06 is not worth it to YOU after reading what it would cost you!
If you really like your Z06 (and I do too) then sink some bucks into it. YOu can get that car to 500 HP.
BUT Have you stood next to one of these new Z06's yet?
When you do, I think you'll be talking a different tune.
It is one bad azz, sexy car. It even makes the 2005 Corvette look lame and tame.
They were BOTH at the Philly Auto Show this year about 20 feet away from each other and those cars are night & day and that comparison was just the 2 cars standing still.
BUT then again, if the HP rating is all you're interested in, stay with the Outlaw bro.
Hopefully in 2 years when I can get my hands on an 07 Z06, and I blow by the troops headin down the AC expressway, it would be in your best interest to stay in line this time... :D
Nick.................... You're gonna get a C6, Z06......... I'll betcha.
Joe, let's go help him spend his money.. :D
