Engine detailing

Hi,
I have 43K on my 2002 Z06. The engine compartment could you a little cleaning up. What should I use that won't damage the prodigious amount of plastic found there?

I have used S-100 ( get from motorcycle shops ) spray on engine to clean dirt/ grease with a bucket and sponge. The one thing you do not want to do is hose down your engine compartment. Also the engine and engine compartment should be cold. To shine the plastic and rubber parts I have used tire dressing on a rag and wipe down everything. Do not use a heavy coat or it will just pick up more dust. Carl may also have some good info... Bill

What Bill said above will work fine, Simple Green is a good cleaner for under the hood, if you stay on top of the engine compartment cleaning will be much easier, how bad is it?
