Hi everyone, well its that time of the year and the car came out of winter storage. I went to state inspection on Wednesday and failed. The paper work says "Based on the information obtained from the OBD system, the system is not ready to determine the status of the pollution control system”. Under Readiness Results the catalytic converters, secondary air injection and evaporative system came up as not ready. The battery was out of the car all winter, and the guy said that’s why it probably failed and to drive it (computer re-learn). I drove the car about 40 miles but the same items come up as not ready. Is there something I’m not doing right?
Thanks!

check to make sure your gas cap is tight. Open it then put it back on and when it begins to click turn it one full turn. It may take as much as 50 to 75 miles to re-learn. Start it let it run 10 min, shut it off repeat 5 or 6 times. Then drive it another 25 or so miles.

He maybe correct, usually 100-200 miles is needed, as well as several key starts.

The guy is correct. The computer has a memory. If the battery was out of the vehicle - The computer will know and store that info. You need to drive the vehicle for at least 100 miles. After driving this distance, The computer will generate some info to be stored.
