The Ralley was a success and the poker run had enough people in it that there were three money prizes given. Hope everyone had a good time at the picnic. It is really cool having that many Vettes on your lawn at one time. Thanks to all who came and to those that helped set it up and helped clean up. Brian, you da man! It was great meeting the new members who showed up. Hope we didn't scare you off from future events. :D

Maryann and I had a great time at the rally and picnic today. Thanks so much to Ginny & Paul for planning the rally; the "new and improved" version had a wonderful relaxation (read catch up)section for the navigator. The clues were creative and the drive was so scenic with Bucks County covered bridges, country roads and a beautiful day.

Thanks also to Rosie and Tony for opening their home to everyone. It was so nice to see old friends and make some new ones. Thanks to everyone who brought the great food and cooked it. Finally thanks to Don for introducing the idea of a rally; we have had many hours of fun driving the 'vette.

Let me add my Thanks to Tony and Rose for making the picnic a success I would also like to thanks Rich Rogers, Steve DeFazio and Rich Meier for helping with the cooking and Tim Simmons who manned a Rally checkpoint. And especially Paul and Ginny Wydominic for the countless hours they both put in creating the perfect Rally. Thanks to everyone who helped with the picnic who brought desserts and appetizers. This day was exactly the reason I joined the CCDV. We should have many more just like them. In the very near future I will post some pix and results of the Rally/Poker Run. Thanks Don & Chris

We are sooooo glad that everyone had such a great time running the rally. To make a rally great it takes great participants, which we had, it made us feel the time spent putting it together was well worth it. Thank you Don for your ongoing support and encouragement. And thak you Tim for manning the checkpoint. Tony and Rose you made it a very special day the picnic was terrific. Loved the food thanks to all the cooks at home and on the scene!

What a fantastic Saturday - Rally and Picnic!!

Special thanks to:
Paul and Ginny for spending countless hours preparing the rally. They had to run this rally themselves about 15 times to prepare this event checking mileages, making up questions and developing a professional rally booklet. Paul also delivered and picked-up tables and chairs for the picnic.

Tony and Rose - What can we say, you guys are the very "BEST". Nothing is ever to much trouble for you!!!

Roses daughter (Rachel) - A huge help with the food preparation and serving.

Steve DeFazio - Best doggie and burger chef in the club.

Last but not least, Don and Chris who are always involved in the organization of almost every club event. Don, you have done an outstanding job as our clubs Activity Director - "THANKS".

When you are on your way, make sure you read a few questions ahead. It is very easy to miss a clue or mis-interpet the clue. You might come across an answer to a question you didn't come to yet on your sheet. If you are really trying to win, you might have to back track. You can do this safely, unless the rules state you can't go back. What you have to do is keep recording your mileage as you go along. If you back track a 1/2 mile, then you have to deduct 1.0 mile from your total. For example, we had to do this a few times on the last rally. We missed the butterflies on the house and we thought we missed the doll house, but then found the clue out of order. If you miss a turn, you have to deduct the mileage you went off course. Before you hand in your answer sheet, deduct all your corrections and add up your total. Most of the rallies the club runs, you'll find that the total mileage is asked. That is the only way to get it correct. If you miss a clue or two, you'll find yourself out of the running. Remember the four R's. Reading, Riting, Rithmetic, and Rally. In the end, it's all about having fun and arguing with your navigator.

If you deduct mileage from your total caused by backtracking then why do we bother recording start and finish miles?? I don't understand what you're saying.

I will tell you this though, we had alot of fun. I wish the Rallyes were timed but I fully understand why they are not.

I think I understand what Dennis is referring to concerning deducting miles. We run a Gimmick or some call it a Fun Rally. There are as many different versions of this type of Rally as there are clubs that run them. One version requires each Team to record their milege precisely as they go from point to point, at the end of the Rally the team should have the correct mileage if they found all the clues, if they missed a clue they may be off. This type of Rally does not give the teams clues with mileage as we do, instead you find your way by solving clues, for instance to "turn left after the red house" This version also allows teams to back track and hunt for clues but the team still has the responsibility to calculate the correct mileage. We run a different Rally, you can accurately calculate the correct total mileage of the course directly from the booklet if you wish very easily. We do this to eliminate backtracking to look for clues. Let me explain, in the rules or basics we ask the teams "Do not backtrack to look for clues" the reason is we use rural roads that are not very condusive to U turns, the last thing we want are cars banging into one another. Then we ask each team to record their start and finish odometer mileage (not trip odometer). This way if a team does backtrack to look for clues or becomes terribly lost this would be reflected in their total mileage and 15 points would be deducted from their total score which is equivilant to missing 7 1/2 clues. I think I'm right, if not don't hesitate to tell me. Don

Just a heads up. When I started putting together these Rallyes I figured we would run two or three very basic Rallyes then once we developed a core group of Rally participants and we got the basics down I would bump it up a notch. The next Rally will be different and more challenging but just as much if not more fun. Look for more info in October's Gas Cap Don

Your explanation is how I understood it. We missed 3 clues, all in succession and back tracking would have maybe gained us those 6 points (had we found those 3 clues) BUT cost us the 15 points for hitting the mileage, so we continued on.

Anyway.....................
I can not wait for the October Gascap and the next Rallye. That rallye was the most fun I've had with the club yet since being a member.

Ummm, you were supposed to have Ginny check your mileage at the finish to make sure you didn't backtrack. The actual mileage was already given in the directions. Not being able to backtrack was the only thing that kept us from having a 17-way tie and a lot of late arrivals at the picnic. Your choice if you missed an answer was to give up the 2 points or risk losing 15 points by going over the mileage. ;)
