I was hoping someone could let me know the best place to get insurance for a C4 89 to 94. I called my insurnace company Erie and the rate was a high as our primary vehicles (even though I told them I would only drive the car less than 3K/year.).
I looked at http://www.americancollectorsins.com however the qualifications indicate that the car has to be 15 years old.
I have a clean driving record and have had not accidents in 20 years of driving (knock on wood). The vette would be garage kept.
Thanks,
Tom

Tom,
If you do not drive your car in the winter, you can lay it up for 90 days. I also have Erie and lay mine up from December 15th to March 15th. You determine the lay-up dates, but it must be 90 consecutive days. It can drastically reduce your rate.

If your C4 is 1989 or prior you can get classic tags and then the insurance is real cheap.

I'm also looking for new insurance for all 3 of our vehicles. Got a price from Erie, but, the girl I talked with knew nothing about a 3 month winter layover. ;tt So far I was rejected by AIG because,;tt get this, "I take my Vette to car shows."????? Not that I might race it, but, I enter it in car shows like the Calvacade and Buckingham. Geez... Also I went to Progressive and they don't insure Corvettes...for less than $3,000.00 a year. The best price I've got so far is from Geico, but, I don't know how good they are. Does anybody??

Mike,
My Erie insurance agents name is Rob McVaugh. Give him a call regarding insurance on your 3 vehicles and the 90 day layover for your Vette. His number is (215) 257-9171 and let me know how you make out.

I am an insurance agent and we insure many corvettes, including my own. We also withdrawl the vehicle from use during the months that you choose (up to 6 months at a time). Our rates can be very reasonable as long as you have a clean record and qualify for our preferred company. If i can be of any help, please let me know. Carol at State Farm (215) 639-6440 :)

Mike:
I had GEICO ins. from my teen years until just 4 or 5 years ago. They were a very good company & I was very happy with them but it seemed they increased the premiums drastically the past few years & when I could get coverage elsewhere for hundreds less, I tried to see if they would reduce their rate but they wouldn't budge. So now I'm with Hartford (thru AARP - yes I'm that old!) & we've saved thousands! The Vette has been insured thru Amer. Collectors for over 10 years & the premium is $130. per year - full stated value coverage. Can't beat that!
