I am having trouble with the fuel pump on my 350/350. The new fuel pump that I installed 4 years ago broke where the lever attaches to the piston inside the pump housing. The car sat for 4 years prior to 2 weeks ago. The gas tank was cleaned as were the fuel lines. There are new hoses at the tank and fuel pump. I put 10 gallons of clean fresh gas in 2 weeks ago.

The car started & ran for 5 minutes & died. I installed a new fuel pump this afternoon & the same thing happened. Ran for a couple minutes & died. Broken lever again.

A small warning sheet in the fuel pump box states "Installation of this pump on V-8 engines with 262, 267, 283, 302, 305, 327, 348, 350 Small Block 400 or 409 CU. IN displacement will damage the fuel pump". Well that makes sense. My problem is: this is the ONLY pump (6416741 Type 40482)listed in my parts
manuals for ANY 69 engine - big or small block.

Anyone got any suggestions? The plus in this is I am getting really good at replacing the fuel pump Ha Ha!

John, ignore my ignorance, but can't you just install an electric pump?

Yes - I could install an electric pump but it would be a last resort thing.

I installed a SB Carter fuel pump this morning & the car ran fine for over 15 minutes. If you have a SB 69, don't rely on GM giving you the correct fuel pump. The pump they have listed for ALL '69 Corvette engine configurations is for a BB ONLY. There is a warning sheet in the box stating it is for a BB ONLY.

Thanks for all the input & support.
