Rich:
I would think that even if you could do what you ask, it would NOT be recommended! There can be considerable movement & play in the slight separation between the glass body & urothane (rubber) bumpers which would make long term adhesion difficult if not impossible. I recently decided to have my original '76 bumpers replaced. They didn't look too bad but needed some attention & repaint + they started to have some wavey areas. After thinking about it & not having a desire to go for any NCRS type awards, I opted to go with the fiberglass replacements because once they are lined up properly (which definitely takes time & patience + some shaving), the paint match goes much better & they will look great & last forever. My original bumpers (after 26 years) litterally self destructed & fell apart when they were being removed.
This is just my thoughts on what you are considering.
